Meet Laura
A learner, a listener, a teacher and a therapist: I am a compassionate counselor dedicated to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where individuals, couples and families can explore their inner most thoughts and emotions freely. Whether you are new to therapy or returning with fresh goals, you will be heard, respected and supported in our work together. I believe healing and growth are possible and I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.
My experience spans over two decades and covers a broad spectrum of therapeutic focuses. In my 20s, I concentrated on grief counseling in a church setting, navigating the loss of loved ones, relationships and major life transitions. In my 30s, I focused on survivors of domestic abuse/violent assault and navigating a safe exit from abusers. During this time, my work also included navigating the challenges that accompany a fertility journey. Now in my late 40s, my work has centered on uncovering and healing childhood trauma, exploring family dynamics and addressing old patterns that no longer align with one’s present-day self. I also have a renewed interest and passion for helping individuals manage age-related life transitions.
My academic and professional background is rooted in psychology, with my degree specializing in childhood development. I spent 15 years as a teacher working with diverse families and have completed extensive certifications in Restorative Therapy and Crisis Counseling. My continuing education hours are through Mindsight Institute, where I am currently studying interpersonal skills, relationality and coaching youth in regulating their emotions. I collaborate closely with a trusted network of therapists and other specialists, and if I’m not the right fit for your needs, I’ll gladly help connect you with someone who is best suited for you.
Confidentiality is the fundamental ethical principle that upholds the integrity of the therapeutic process, which is essential for therapy to be effective. It is of utmost importance to me in my practice that the relationship that is formed between myself and my clients fosters trust, safety and openness. Clients must be secure in knowing that their thoughts, feelings and experiences will be kept private. *I am legally and ethically obligated to disclose cases in which I suspect harm to self or others.
